Fried Cabbage / Kapusta Zasmazana Slodka

Cabbage offers huge health benefits that can not be ignored! Many health benefits are similar to broccoli (they’re in the same plant family). Cabbage is high in beta-carotene, vitamin C and fiber. (Vitamin C to reduce toxins which are the main causes of arthritis, gout, and skin diseases.) Also, cabbage may reduce the risk of some forms of cancer including colorectal cancers.
Cabbage lasts longer in the fridge than most vegetables. If cabbage is properly stored, it can last from 3 weeks to up to 2 months in your refrigerator. In optimum root cellar conditions, it can even last longer. Store in a hydrator drawer if possible. Do not remove the outer leaves nor wash until ready to use.

Ingredients

  • 1 small Cabbage
  • 1 small Bunch of dill
  • 2 medium Onions
  • 250 g Smoked bacon (Optional)
  • 500 ml Broth or water
  • 4 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tbsp Butter or margarine
  • 2 Allspice
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Fry chopped onion and ( bacon optional) on a tablespoon of butter or oil. I did not add bacon to mine. Cut the cabbage in half, shred into small pieces as shown above. When the (bacon optional) and onion brown, add the cabbage, mix everything well and fry. When the cabbage is in the pan, add broth or water, bay leaf, allspice, salt and a few pinches of black pepper. Cover and saute over medium heat for 20- 25 minutes depending on the age of the cabbage it should be soft. When the cabbage is soft, add butter, chopped dill and add flour while stirring or you may make a roux. Serve warm preferably with bread or potatoes and port chop. Smacznego!
