Funnel Cakes / Lane Chrusty

Funnel Cakes is a delicacy originating from North America. It is usually served with powdered sugar, a thick fruit sauce or fruit toppings. In our Polish cuisine known under the name "lane chrusty" taste similar to donuts and are really simple to make and very tasty.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour (presifted)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar (for topping)
  • 1 oil for frying

Instructions

  • In a larger bowl combine milk, egg and vanilla.
  • In a separate large bowl, combine flour, salt, baking soda, and sugar and gradually add to wet ingredients. Beat with a mixer until a smooth batter consistency forms. 
  • Mix in melted butter and pour batter into a funnel. Heat up the oil in the pan. Pour batter into hot oil while moving the funnel in a circular motion to create spiral-like shapes. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. You can serve with a thick fruit sauce or decorate with fruit of choice. Enjoy!
